Everything a child needs to know about ADHD by Dr CR Yemula
This book is written as an interesting story with colourful illustrations, for young children aged 6 to 12 years, to improve their understanding of such a complex condition.
Here are some comments from the readers
"It is good and it explains well what ADHD is and I think other children would like it too. I wish I had known about it when I was first told I had ADHD" - Connor, an 8 year old boy
"At first I thought it was my fault. After reading the book I understand the way I am is because of my ADHD, and that made me feel better". - Laura aged 9 years.
This book about ADHD was clear and the language was easy to understand while reading with my 8 year old son Matthew, who has ADHD. I found it very helpful as it generated conversation about his behaviour. I would recommend all parents read this book with their child. - Sharon, mother of a child with ADHD.
Price: £8.49 each (£6.99 + £1.50 P+P)

ADHD – The Essential Guide by Diane Paul
Does your child have frequent temper tantrums? Are they always fidgeting, running around screaming or falling over? Perhaps you teach a child like that.
If so, the chances are there’s nothing to worry about and they are just being boisterous. But for five to ten percent of children it isn’t that simple. These characteristics can be some of the symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). So, how can you tell the difference and what can you do about it?
Due out in August, Diane Paul’s positive and supportive book is here to help. Its easy-to-read style guides parents and carers through the process, from spotting the symptoms and getting a diagnosis to receiving treatment and finding support.
This book tells you which professionals can help, how to get through the ‘system’ and gain support from your school and how to get the best education for your child’s needs. Practical issues such as life after school and healthy eating are also an integral part of the book.
Author Diane Paul, who has worked with special needs children, says: ‘It isn’t much fun living with a child who has Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and even less fun if your child has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). For a start, most people think they’re just attention seeking or, even worse, badly brought up. “It’s the parents’ fault,” they say. “They don’t know how to bring up children.”
‘To be accused of poor parenting when you spend all your time chasing around after an unruly youngster who is disruptive at home and at school is the last straw. This book aims to bring together the information you need to help your child’.
Whether you are a parent or teacher, being equipped with the facts will enable you to make informed decisions. Knowledge is the key. Finding out as much as you can is crucial. This book is your starting point.
Published by Need2Know – the imprint of Forward Press that focuses on overcoming real life situations – ADHD – The Essential Guide is the twelfth in the series, and is available from the Need2Know website (www.need2knowbooks.co.uk) or by calling 01733 898103 or emailing .

Integrative Treatment for Adult ADHD: A Practical, Easy-to-Use Guide for Clinicians. by Ari Tuckman, PsyD, MBA
Review from the author I spent countless hours distilling the best of what the research tells us, combined with my ten years of clinical experience, to create a book that gives readers everything they need to know to work most effectively with this interesting and under-served population. Standard therapy techniques are often of limited benefit for adults with ADHD because the desired and expected changes either don't come or don't stick if you don't consider the impact of ADHD on the person's troubles. Although one in 25 adults has ADHD, that prevalence is much higher among those who seek mental health services, meaning that every therapist has at least a couple ADHD adults in their caseloads.
My four-part integrative treatment model includes:
- · Education to help clients better understand their ADHD so they can approach those problems more constructively.
- · Medication to improve their basic functioning.
- · Coaching to teach specific strategies to help clients better manage their lives and stay on top of demands.
- · Therapy to build a stronger self-esteem based on honoring their strengths while accepting their weaknesses.
- The chapters include:
Section I: Understanding Adult ADHD 1. Diagnosing ADHD in Adults 2. Neurological Bases of ADHD 3. Impact of ADHD on an Adult’s Life
Section II: The Integrative Treatment Model 4. Education as a Therapeutic Technique 5. Medications and Other Biological Treatments 6. Coaching: More than Obvious Advice 7. Adapting Psychotherapy for the ADHD Adult Appendix: Other Resources for Clinicians and Clients
In addition, I have a large collection of forms for clinicians and handouts for clients available free of charge here: http://www.tuckmanpsych.com/indexN.php?g=book_handouts.
Here's what some of the biggees in the field had to say about my book:
". . . it is a real pleasure to read Tuckman's superbly rendered book on ADHD in adults, for it is so well-reasoned, science-based, information-rich, to the point, and finally—useful! Apart from wishing I had written it, I sincerely wish that you will read it." —Russell A. Barkley, Ph.D.
"Tuckman has authored a state of the art volume deftly blending science and clinical experience to provide a reasoned, reasonable and eminently useful treatment guide for adult ADHD. He writes from a strong scientific and clinical framework. It is clear in this volume that he has spent countless hours helping adults with ADHD. Current in its scientific foundation and practical in its approach to assessment and treatment, Integrative Treatment for Adult ADHD is an exceptional guide for mental health professionals working with adults with ADHD. It is rare to find volumes directed at mental health professionals that are scientifically accurate yet practical in approach. In his new book, Tuckman has accomplished both." —Sam Goldstein, Ph.D.
You can buy the book from all the usual sources, including Amazon, pasted here in an abbreviated fashion: http://tinyurl.com/22n32r
You can get more information about the book here: http://www.tuckmanpsych.com/indexN.php?g=book_overview.
Finally, if you need continuing education credits (and who doesn't?), you can get 8 of them after reading the book, through www.NACEonline.com.
I thank you for your consideration. Obviously, feel free to forward this to anyone else who you think may be interested.

Laughing Star by Jo Nisbet
A Story of Tough Love is an autobiographical account of a mother dealing with two children who suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). The book focuses on Jo’s daughter Emily, who is so out of control that ‘Brat Camp’ becomes the last resort in order to help her lead a better and more fulfilling life. The account follows Jo’s life with Emily at home, as she becomes impossible to deal with – Emily is expelled from 2 schools, frequently binge drinks, and begins taking recreational drugs. Once at Brat Camp the story follows Emily’s life in Utah , portrayed through her journal entries.
Jo, who works as a Counselling Psychologist, began to write as a means of catharsis, to download her experiences after a challenging and confusing time. As her account grew, Jo thought that by publishing her experiences she might be able to help other families who have children with ADHD or just generally difficult children. Jo says of her desire to tell her story as it is – “no heroes or villains – just ordinary people caught in an all-consuming turmoil over a much-loved child and the destruction it caused to our family.”
Jo is a trustee of The Hyperactive Children’s Support Group (HACSG) and describes herself as an ordinary person, but her account in Laughing Star shows that Jo Nisbet is in fact an extraordinary lady.
Praise for Laughing Star: “A Powerful and thought-provoking account. A truly inspirational read.” Undiscovered Authors
